Thrifty Thursday: Stripes

Hello, folks!  It's been a while since my last Thrifty Thursday post, and the New Year seemed like a the perfect opportunity to resume my Thrifty Thursday posts.

I almost included these Michael Kors suede espadrilles in my "Top Thrifts" list.  I found these pretties at my go-to thrift store in December 2011, far past espadrille-wearing season on the East Coast.  At $13, the price was steep by thrift store standards.  But considering that they were a nearly-new pair of Kors Michael Kors shoes, and an item that would work well with my style, the price seemed very reasonable.

And I assure you, I have already gotten my $13 out of these shoes.  I didn't dare risk hypothermia by wearing them in the frosty East Coast weather, but I did wear them every chance I got while in California for the holidays.  They're amazingly comfortable despite the 4.5" height.  And when I wear them, I'm taller than my brothers.  That's always a bonus.

J. Crew striped sweater. Thrifted for $5 (similar)
TJ Maxx white cami. $10
J. Crew skinny jeans. Retail: $90ish. Sale: $30
Kors Michael Kors suede espadrilles. Thrifted for $13 (similar w/ closed toe)
J. Crew thin enamel bangles.  $11 each (buy here)
Total: $92

Thanks for reading!

  1. Great find on the shoes! I have a nearly identical pair, although they aren't Michael Kors. They are so perfect in the summer, comfortable, and go with practically any outfit! Unfortunately the braided sole on one of mine is starting to come unravelled, so beware the same doesn't happen to you. I think I was just clumsy and got my foot stuck on something, which started the unravelling of the shoe :(

Thanks, Susan! I had seen similar shoes this summer for $200+. I was so lucky to find them for much, much less!

Thanks, Viktoria! One of the best things about being on vacation was having the ability to dress casually whenever I wanted. It was such a treat!

Thanks for the helpful tip, Kelly! I will definitely have to take care to ensure that the soles on these don't come unravelled. That would be a huge disappointment!

And I agree that these go with so many outfits. I have been longing to wear mine again, but guess I"ll have to wait until we thaw out.

Hope all is well with you.

  8. It's funny how when you've thrifted for a while $13 is "pricey". So true!
    What a great find!
