Color Blocking

Yesterday, Lisa of Respect the Shoes asked her readers about the trend(s) that they have been wearing most frequently.  If there is one fall trend that I have embraced wholeheartedly, it is color blocking.  The simplicity of solid colors is easily incorporated into my work wardrobe, and the bold contrast adds a fun element of interest.  Additionally, color blocking seems to lend itself to usual color combinations (e.g., those Talbots flats I just purchased are fuschia and orange, which seems like a fashion "no-no").

Ann Taylor color block shell.  Retail: $68. Sale: $20
LOFT ruffled blazer. Retail: $98. Sale: $42
Gap trousers. Retail: $70ish. Sale: $30
Pink Studio "Ballroom" pumps in Burnt Orange. Retail: $94. Sale: $28

While color blocking may be on trend this season, many of the color blocked items that I love seem as classic as they are trendy.  The AT shell that I am wearing above may be "of the moment" this season, but it will most certainly be a go to item in future years as well.

Here are just a few other items that have caught my attention:

  3. Ooh, contrast-trim dress, you are lovely! I'm a huge fan of the color block myself - it's fun but still seems very grown-up and sophisticated!

I really like color blocking too, but I haven't been able to do that much of it. I have my eyes on those pretty Talbots flats that you just purchased--can't wait to see what you wear them with!

Thanks, Kristin! I don't wear it often, but I really should; it's a great staple that works with a lot of my work ensembles.

The flats are incredibly comfortable, so I think they could work well for you as I imagine you're on your feet all day. I'm still trying to decide whether I should keep them -- I've also had my eye on the black and ivory version and am considering exchanging the pink...

I agree whole-heartedly on your assessment of colorblocking. And that contrast trim dress is probably my favorite item here -- it's not often that blue and orange can be combined without risk of looking like a NY Knicks superfan...but this dress does a great job of combining the two.

Thanks, Eleanor I think its a good thing I didn't see those dresses on Black Friday, or I might have been tempted to buy them. Hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving as well!

Thanks, Jessica! The blazer is a little boxy, but the ruffles are pretty enough to make up for it. And aren't those shoes great? I love the mix of colors!
